During the course of a month The Caravan Gallery transformed two storeys of an empty shop in Liverpool’s Renshaw Street into a temporary exhibition hub-cum-alternative visitor information centre. With the help of local residents and visitors we created a warts and all celebration of Liverpool in pictures, objects, words and performance.
We got the ball rolling with a selection of our own Liverpool photographs taken over many years. The exhibition grew daily as visitors added their own observations and contributions to The People’s Map and The People’s Wall. The Friends of Williamson’s Tunnels created a particularly impressive display.
The Liverpool Pride of Place Project gave local people of all ages a great opportunity to get creative and showcase their talents – photos, videos, drawings, paintings, sculptures, home-made souvenirs, postcards. All contributions were welcome as long as they had a Liverpool theme.
This project was part of LOOK/13 Liverpool International Photography Festival Parallel Programme.
