Southampton: The Naked City
Experimental walking workshop led by Matt Fletcher
12th November 2016, 2pm – 4pm
Meet at 108 East Street, take a walk around Old Town Southampton, and then return to
108 East Street (next to Perry’s art shop) SO14 3HD
This experimental walking workshop, led by Matt Fletcher, will set out to replicate the psychogeographic wanderings of the Situationists around the streets of 1950s Paris. By drifting through the paths and by-ways of Southampton’s Old Town, participants will be encouraged to find ‘value’ in an urban landscape which is undergoing rapid transformation.
The workshop is free to attend and is suitable for all ages, but please be aware that there is significant walking involved. The walk will be negotiating steps and uneven surfaces, so is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchairs. Most of the workshop will take place outdoors, so please wear suitable clothing.
Matt Fletcher is a Senior Lecturer in Performance at Southampton Solent University, as well as a freelance artist, writer and director.
