Jan here – I’m over the moon to be fulfilling my long held ambition to learn about astrophotography and see the Northern Lights on a Chasing the Aurora with Wil expedition to Norway in October. I couldn’t have done this without a hefty discount from Wil, a bursary, and a camera loan from London Camera Exchange in Lincoln who are providing me with a newer and less beaten up Lumix G9 to replace the one I’ve used virtually every day for the last 8 years! I’m SO excited, and extremely grateful to everyone who’s made this possible, not least of all Caravan Chris who’s hoping this trip will help me get over my obsession with the aurora.
I’m not sure how much social media connectivity I’ll have during my artist residency at sea but I’ll certainly be throwing myself into documenting my adventure, creating new work and learning all about astrophotography. Be prepared for a brand new body of work about aurora hunting, cruise life, orcas and magical Northern climes!
We took the image below on 10 October 2024 when we experienced our first proper aurora at the top of Butser Hill in Hampshire. Such a thrill!
